In a worn-out apartment lives 80-year-old Jan Eckervold. Jan fills his days with simple pleasures like bingo and trips to the pub. He also enjoys watching life unfold around the roundabout at Carl Berner and spending time at home watching football on TV and drawing, always with his bird, Bobby, by his side. He feels irritated by the increasing interference from the home care services. Their concern for his health leads to daily exercises and weekly swimming lessons that disrupt his routines. Jan suddenly dies of a heart attack while trying to open a jar of jam.
